Our Partnership: 1Mission
1Mission is a Christian ministry that gives people in poverty the opportunity to earn a home free
of charge by serving in their community.
1Mission utilizes the CHE strategy, which stands for Community Health Evangelism. It is a holistic
ministry strategy that integrates evangelism, discipleship and church planting with community
health and development. The CHE strategy is being used in over 100 countries. It is the primary
strategy that Pantano partners are using around the world for community transformation.
What will we be doing?
Building Homes: We partner with 1Mission and members of the local community to build
homes for those in need. Although this is a house-building project, the focus of the project is
building relationships. It’s work! It’s fun! It’s gratifying! In over 28 years of mission trips, Pantano
has seen entire neighborhoods transformed.
Children’s outreach: Called “Los Niños,” you will participate in a “mini vacation bible school”
using arts and crafts, games, songs, and Bible stories with local children. The Los Niño’s team
also provides outreach and ministry to the mothers of the children.
Kitchen team: This amazing team prepares meals for trip participants for breakfast, lunch &
dinner, as well as providing drinks and snacks to the build sites!
What does the trip cost cover?
Trip costs include the price of food, drinks, campsite fees, all house-building materials, 1Mission
costs, background checks, and Rocky Point t-shirts. Pantano does not make a profit and
actually significantly subsidizes the trip costs to help keep it affordable.
What forms do I fill out?
As part of the Rocky Point mission trip we expect the registration, Pantano and 1Mission liability
release forms to be submitted to Pantano Christian Church in a timely manner. These forms will
be emailed to you once you have registered. All participants 18 and older must also submit for
a background check to attend the mission. Why a background check? We do this to be
above reproach and to protect our youth and participants as well as those of our mission
families.
As a Rocky Point team member what is expected of me?
It is expected that all team members attend all pre-mission meetings. Stay in communication
with your team during the trip. A mandatory check-in for all members is required on Saturday,
October 5
th
, at The Reef RV Park no later than 11am, regardless of accommodations.
Attending team debriefs throughout the trip is also required.
What T-Shirt size should I get?
We have attached the adult size chart below to reference. Please know that we order an
exact number of shirts and are unable to exchange your shirt for a different size.
Is Rocky Point safe?
Yes. We feel Rocky Point is reasonably safe. Being a tourist destination, the Mexican
government goes to great lengths to keep everyone in Rocky Point safe. Any international
travel can carry some risks, but we take precautions to keep you as safe as possible. Anytime
you travel, even in the U.S., you should be aware of your surroundings and take reasonable
steps to protect your belongings and person. We do safety training in the pre-mission meetings
and daily on the work site.
We drive to Mexico in caravans and strongly urge everyone not to drive at night as per US
State Department warnings.
What should I pack?
Some things that may be helpful are: water bottles, non-melting snacks, passports/birth
certificates, parental consent forms (if applicable), breakfast/lunch for Saturday, shower flip
flops, a towel, a small fan for your tent or bedside, folding chairs (for team debriefs), work
boots and long pants (for work sites). How about a pair of water shoes for the beach! We will
provide you with a more detailed packing list prior to the trip.
I am driving my vehicle, do I need anything?
Yes! It is important you are insured with Mexican car insurance. We like sanborns.com but there
are many easy options online.
Also, we strongly suggest you have an auto check-up before driving your vehicle down to
Mexico. There may or may not be access to reliable mechanics while in Mexico.
Reminder: Make sure your vehicle is free of any firearms, ammo, or ammo shells. You cannot
cross the border with any of these items.
Where do we stay?
We camp at The Reef RV Campground in tents & campers on the beach. The address is:
Boulevard Paseo de la Duna, Playa Arenos, Puerto Peñasco, Son., Mexico. There are
bathrooms and showers available. Camp fees are included in your registration cost. If you’re
unable to camp, there are condos and hotels nearby. The closest condo to the campground
is the Sonoran Sun. You can check out Rocky Point condos at seasidemexico.com. There are
also RV rentals available through Rockypointfunrvrental.com. Participants assume all costs and
transportation responsibilities of off-site accommodations.
What are we going to eat?
We will have an amazing kitchen team that will prepare delicious meals for us. Meals begin
Saturday night and the last meal will be a grab and go breakfast Tuesday morning. You’ll
need to bring your own lunch for Saturday while driving down to Mexico. We will share a
tentative menu in advance and do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions.
Do I need a passport?
Passports are required for all participants 16 years old & older. US Citizens age 15 or younger
must travel with a birth certificate; original or copy.
What do Minors travelling without both parents need?
All minors travelling without both parents must have a notarized parental consent signed by
both parents. These forms can emailed to you at your request.
Do I need to get any shots?
None are required for travel in Mexico. Many people that go to Rocky Point do not get any
special vaccinations. The CDC has recommendations for Mexico but does not get specific
about Rocky Point. They recommend: “most travelers get vaccinated against Typhoid and
Hepatitis A. The church does not require these to participate. We want to make you aware of
the CDC’s recommendations, but it is up to your discretion.
I registered and am no longer able to attend, what do I do?
If you can no longer attend the Rocky Point trip, we need to know immediately! This affects
team size, camping reservations, and much more. Your trip cost is non-refundable. Please
contact Lisa Flowers at [email protected]ch or 520.298.5395.
