Beginningwithversion2015SR2,PolarionintegratesthePostgreSQLdatabaseinallnew
installations.AfteranewPolarioninstallationcontainingthisdatabase,itishighlyrecommended
thattheadministratoradjustsomePostgreSQLsettingstooptimizeperformance.Youshouldmake

installorupdatealicenseduringruntimeofthePolarionserver,withouttheneedtocopythelicense
lemanuallytothetargetmachine.AccesstothisapplicationisNOTinitiallyprotectedbyusername
andpassword.Forproductionuse,itishighlyrecommendedtosecureaccesstothisapplication
directlyintheApacheconguration.
Beginningwithversion2015,thereisatemplateApachecongurationleinthePolarioninstallation
folder:/polarion/polarion/install/polarion.activation.conf.template
Toensurethatausernameandpasswordisrequestedwhenaccessingtheactivationapplication
(/polarion/activate/onlineand/polarion/activate/ofine),copythisletotheApacheconguration
folder,onLinuxusually/etc/httpd/conf.d/.
Aftercopyingthele,renameittoremovetheextension.template.Thenopentheleinanytext
editorandmodifyitaccordingtotheinstructioncommentsprovided.
Thetemplatecongurationispreparedforbothuserleauthentication(likePolarionusesfor
Subversionbydefault,withuserpasswordsdatainale)andforauthenticationagainstanLDAP
server.
Inamulti-instancesetup(acoordinatorandoneormoreinstances,thatcanbeclustered),itis
necessarytousethiscongurationonlyonthecoordinatorserver(theactivationapplicationrunsonly

Changethedefaultsystemadministratorpassword
TohelpensurethesecurityofyourPolarionsystem,youshouldchangethedefaultpasswordofthe
systemadministratoruseraccountdescribedbelow,andintheChangingthepasswordforthe
SVN'polarion''usersection.
ThedefaultaccountSystemAdministratorhasaccesstoalladministrativefunctionsofPolarion,
includingread-writeaccesstothesubversionrepository.AfterinstallingPolarionforactualproduction
use,youshouldchangethepasswordonthedefaultsystemadministratoraccount.
Beforeyouchangethepasswordonthedefaultsystemadministratoraccount,youmaywishtocreate
anotheraccountwithadministratorrightsforyourselfand/orsomeoneelse.

ChangingthepasswordfortheSVN‘polarion’user
AsubversionrepositoryusernamedpolarioniscreatedbydefaultwhenyouinstallPolarion.This
useractsonbehalfofPolarionandhasextensivepermissionsincludingreadpermissionforall
projects.AccesstothisuserbyunauthorizeduserswouldcompromisethesecurityofyourPolarion
system,sochangethispasswordbeforeputtingthesystemintoproductionuse.
Thefollowingstepsassumeyouusepasswdleauthentication,whichisthemostcommonmethod.
1.StopthePolarionserverbeforechangingthispassword.
2.Usethehtpasswd.exetochangethepasswordforthepolarionuser.Theutilityislocatedinthe
